Replacement tiles in the making for Caulms Wood Park Pyramid, Dewsbury. First made in 1985! Interesting to try and replicate the general mood and appearance of pieces done 35 years ago.

Our summer making course begins on the 2nd of August and we are looking forward to it and we now have a place on this one because of a cancellation. In September the glaze course will start on the 6th September and finish on the 11th.

While we look forward to our summer course, which starts on 2nd August, I've been busy working on a restoration project for the pyramid in Caulms Wood park in Dewsbury. Tiles were removed and taken away and because it was made in 1985, it may be difficult to get anything like a match all these years later.

Glaze Course postponed. Today is not the day we expected, when folks gather here to explore glazes. I have been making a few tests with local materials while thinking of you all. That annoying mole hill seemed quite sticky, so made into a slip, and it has fired to become a very nice brick red. A bit of woodland clearing, burned into ash has become an intriguing glaze to be further explored. The studio is still in action anyway and we look forward to getting back to normal. Our Making course is still on the calendar in August and fingers crossed it will happen. Best wishes and in the timely phrase: keep safe. Jim

2019 - 5 day CERAMIC COURSE– 4th-9th August THE WORKSHOP: Started in 1975, the gallery and studio are housed in a converted 19th century stone barn near Holmfirth. Surrounded by breathtaking countryside (selected to feature on the TV series “Last of the Summer Wine”), the area is famous for its rural flavor and scenic walks. Now in its 43rd year, the gallery is known for its ceramics and Jim mixes functional ware with one off works and commissions.

Booth House Gallery August Ceramic Course
Posted on 16 Aug 2018 by Diane

Eight adventurous ceramicists arrived on Sunday, the 8th of April for a week of intensive study. The course explored clay and glaze materials with days (and nights) of extensive mixing and firings. Kilns were kept busy with one bisque and no less than three glaze firings (including one Raku firing evening). Ready prepared glazes were used, along with personal mixing and testing of raw materials to gain experience with a range of glazes, opacifiers and colours. Evenings were augmented by delicious meals accompanied by conversation and shared experiences. Our next course will be a making and decorating week in August... with just a few places left.

The daffodils are coming up around Booth House Gallery so it's a great time for a woodland sculpture walk to get some creative inspiration.
