Jim Robison celebrates establishing Booth House Pottery studio and Gallery. A space to make, display and promote the art and craft of ceramics.

When Jim and Liz arrived in Holmfirth and settled in Booth House it consisted of a small cottage with two rather decrepit stone barns. But it provided opportunity and space in which to raise a family and develop his ceramic skills alongside teaching art and Ceramics at Bretton Hall College.

When Bretton closed, the Ceramics continued with commissions and individual works of art. Several public works have been created specifically for Holmfirth. The large relief sculptures in the Civic Hall entrance (1993) depict elements of the town, with its historic floods and unique countryside.
There is a ceramic map and stone seat on the bridge in Victoria Street (2001) and murals in the recent park (2014) created opposite the Fair trader.
At 85, Jim’s appetite for creativity continues, enjoying the lifelong adventure that is to be found in fired clay. And annual contributor to Art Week and previous winner of the Ceramics Prize, Jim’s Fringe display at Booth house will include works by several artists and friends who studied and worked with him over the years.

Congratulations dear Jim and Liz!
Just think of all the budding and less experienced ceramacists that you could have inspired over those years!
I’m super pleased that I’ve benefitted from your enthusiasm, knowledge and hospitality.
Many thanks both!!!
Best wishes,
Lee
